With wedding season upon us, the lead up to the big day can cause stress, naturally. International yoga instructor Adrienne Everett has noticed a trend with her clients who are brides-to-be, using yoga to keep calm in the build-up, with some asking her to take a yoga class on the day of the wedding to help stop the nerves from taking over.
“I’ve always been passionate about the transformative power of yoga,” Everett tells Vogue. “I wanted to create a space where brides could find solace amidst the chaos and tailor my yoga classes specifically to help brides prepare for their big day with mindfulness and intention.”
Everett’s pre-wedding classes are designed to tap into the needs of a bride in what can be one of the most nerve-wracking and stressful events they might experience. “They go beyond just physical exercise; they’re a holistic experience designed to nourish the mind, body and spirit. I incorporate mindfulness techniques, breathwork, and movement to help brides connect with themselves on a deeper level. It’s about fostering a sense of inner peace and confidence as they approach one of the most significant milestones of their lives.”
Two of her clients, F1 ambassador and broadcaster Naomi Schiff, who is newly engaged and planning her wedding, and Giorgia Pochetti, who works for Google and got married in Rome last August, enlisted the help of Everett in the build up to and on her wedding day to help her feel calm.
“When it came to planning my wedding, I knew I wanted every aspect to be meaningful and memorable – including the pre-wedding activities,” explains Schiff. “I’ve been following Adrienne’s yoga journey for quite some time, and her approach resonates with me on a deep level. She’s not only an incredibly skilled teacher but also has this innate ability to create an atmosphere of serenity and connection.” Schiff describes what every bride craves during this highly intense time, when taking a moment to ensure a calm period.
“Having Adrienne lead our yoga practice adds a special touch of mindfulness and intention to the celebrations. Her expertise and guidance will not only help us unwind and relax but also set the tone for the entire day. Weddings can be emotionally charged events, and I want us to approach the day with a sense of calmness.” Which is why Schiff has planned to have a pre-wedding yoga session for her bridal party.
“Starting my wedding day with yoga was the best decision I made,” says Pochetti, who married at Soho House Rome. “It allowed me to slow down, take a deep breath, and really soak in the moment before the whirlwind of the day began. The sunrise yoga session from Adrienne was so calming and grounding. It helped me release any tension or nerves I was feeling and instead focus on gratitude and joy. By the time we finished, I felt incredibly centred and ready to embrace every moment of the day ahead.” Pochetti recalls: “As I walked down the aisle, I felt completely in tune with myself and the moment. I wasn’t distracted by worries or stress; instead, I was fully immersed in the love and joy surrounding me. Yoga helped me stay grounded and connected to my breath, which was so important as I took those steps down the aisle and set the tone for the entire day, allowing me to fully savour every moment.”
